Zakar: Remember and Respond

Mar 8, 2026    Madalyn Thiemann

Communion is a powerful moment of remembrance.

In Scripture, the Hebrew word zakar means more than simply remembering — it means recalling something with intention and responding with action.

Just as the Israelites remembered God’s mercy during Passover, Jesus gave us communion as a way to remember His sacrifice. The bread reminds us of His broken body, and the cup reminds us of His blood shed for us.

As we come to the table, we remember the Lamb of God who gave His life so we could have new life.
